A celebration of life will be held for Joe at the Sanford Elks Lodge on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 1 PM.
The Lodge is located at 1006 E. 2nd Street, Sanford, 32771.
There will be an Elks Service and time for those gathered to share their memories of Joe.
Joe was a member of the Sanford Lodge but was a member of every lodge as a Florida State Elk in heart.
He is an example of touching the lives of those around you in all he did. Many of us knew him over the years.
He will be dearly missed
Bernie Porterfield, Candy Tomlinson, and Sarah John from Gainesville Lodge 990 celebrated National Pink Day by raising $520 through their "Bingo for Boobies" fundraiser on June 23, 2024.
The funds will be donated to Blossoming Butterfly, a local 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting local women facing breast cancer and other types of cancer.
Elks Care - Elks Share
Great time yesterday at the Gainesville Elks
Gainesville, FL #990 for our Elks Riders Appreciation Day.
Friendship - Blessing of Bikes by the Christian Motorcycle Association - Live Music by Chasing Rabbits - and more...
Good to see many riders from other lodges and clubs and our National President.
Additionally, we added many "New" potential members!
Jerry Sartain, Gainesville Elks 990, is presented with a Quilt of Valor.
These quilts are meant to serve as a tangible token of appreciation and gratitude for their service and sacrifice.
Founded in 2003 by Catherine Roberts, whose son was deployed in Iraq. Her vision was inspired by a dream where she saw a young man troubled by his war experience being comforted by a quilt. This vision led to the creation of the Quilts of Valor Foundation.
The quilts are awarded to service members and veterans who have been touched by war. This includes those who served in combat zones, as well as those who have been affected by their experiences in various ways.
Thank you for your service!
Congratulations, Jerry Sartain!
The breakfast bunch teaches us that life is short and we should enjoy each day with friends and family.
The stories shared over the years are cherished.
Embracing those memories of those who now look down with a smile and no longer ask for the salt and pepper.
Robert Mountjoy and Donnie Rice will be forever at the table with the breakfast bunch in their hearts.
Elks forever

Shands Children's Hospital Toy Donation
Elks riders of Lodge 990 delivered gifts to children in the UF Shands Children's hospital on December 21st. The funds for the toys were generated by donations from members of Gainesville Elks 990 as well as the use of a portion of the lodges state matching grant. The exposure our riders have given to our lodge shows the community the true value of Elks Care.
Standing Room Only Project.
We donated $2500.00 worth of upgrades to Westwood Middle School for their Standing Room Only program which allowed students to have a reserved social time if they earned merit points by accomplishments and behavior. It is designed to allow the students the chance to interact on a one on one basis and enjoy games, challenges, etc. This was achieved by the use of an Elks Grant in the 2018-2019 year in March.
The Elks Memorial Service is a mandatory Service held by every lodge in the country on the first Sunday of every December.
